Support Foundations
No Poured Concrete Required!
We recommend if the bunkerhouse is to be setup in an area off of a surface of concrete or asphalt, that the foundation material in direct contact with soil be Concrete Masonry Units (CMU blocks) set on their sides. The CMU blocks are customer supplied. The area selected to assemble a bunkerhouse must be scarified of all organic material. A minimum size of an 8" x 8" x 8" CMU block must be installed under each steel swivel foot. They may be stacked for a substantially sloped surface. Undisturbed or properly compacted soil supports a minimum of 1,500 PSF. A properly level adjusted bunkerhouse dead load plus the maximum rated live floor load of 30 PSF, would compress the soil under the blocks to about 1,500 PSF. If additional live roof loading is expected with snow or ice, we recommend the CMU blocks be increased in size to 8" x 16" x 8". Remember the blocks must be set on their side with the block cells aligning parallel to the horizontal plane. Hammer set the supplied 36" anchor stakes with chain around each steel swivel foot for high seismic and high wind holdown locations. Other locations only need 2 anchor stakes on longitudinal centerline at ends.
